Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Orienteering
The course may be a 'stand alone' course or count as
day 1 of a Level 2 Course.
Anyone over the age of 16 may attend a Level 1 Course
but only those on "Route A" may be issued
with a certificate. The categories are carefully defined
so that all "Route A" candidates have had
both the necessary orienteering experience and have
been judged, by their Instructor, to be a suitable person
to work with young people.
Although it is preferable for candidates to have competitive
orienteering experience prior to the course, this is
not essential. Often a 'mini event' will be held during
the training day for those who are new to the sport
to experience the competitive nature of Orienteering.
At the end of the course, candidates will be able
to apply their knowledge, understanding and practical
ability to perform and teach the basic skills of orienteering
to others. You may also be charged with running an event
at your local unit, or help other to run a Company wide
event.
Please note that a Level 1 Certificate in Coaching
Orienteering is for coaching on "Grade A areas"
only. Any sites used must be appropriate for the level
of qualification. In general they should be small areas
with clear boundaries and without any natural or man
made hazards e.g. traffic, large crags, fast water.
