The Junior Sports Leader Award is a nationally recognised
award that is available to all cadets over the age of
14, aimed at developing your leadership skills. Its
a fun course and offers an insight into the enjoyment
you can gain through sports leadership. The syllabus
is designed to cater for all sports as opposed to one
specific sporting activity, which can be applied to
a variety of different events.
Its
a practical qualification where cadets learn through
doing, rather than through written work, and your ability
as a competent leader is assessed by observation rather
than written tests.
The course is divided into two modules , module A covers
the fundamentals of sports leadership, and which is
applicable to a wide variety of sporting and recreational
activities. This includes:
Organisation skills
Fair play in sport
Communication skills
The role of the umpire
Health and fitness
Opportunities in sport and recreation
Module B covers the practilcal side of the course,
where you must complete a minimum of one hour of sporting
or recreational activity of which you have been the
sole planner. Each session is closely supervised by
a qualified Instructor. The one hour leadership can
be split into 2 slots of 30 mins, 3 slots of 20 or 4
slots of 15 minutes.
