The Community Sports Leader Award gives people aged
16 and over the skills needed to lead groups in safe
sporting and recreational activity. It encourages participants
to take responsibility for others, develops organisational
and communication skills and instils confidence in people
for whom leading groups in sporting activities is a
new experience.
The
majority of the course is practical in nature with an
emphasis on learning through doing, rather than through
written work. This award allows both adults and cadets
to assist in sporting activities and to obtain a nationally
recognised qualification.
The Community Sports Leader Award syllabus is divided
into eight units:
Organisational skills
Safety in sport
Know your friends
Fitness sessions for sport
Organisation of events and competitions
Improvisation and adapted games
Games and activity experience
Ten hours voluntary leadership experience
To qualify as a Community Sports Leader, all units must
be satisfactorily completed.
Most of these courses are run over two weekends, however
this does depend on student to Instructor ratio, and
the number and experience of the group.
