The Wyer Cup 2006

The 2006 Battalion Skill at Arms Meeting took place in sunny conditions with 19 teams, representing 18 Platoons taking part.

Wyer Cup WinnersGlastonbury Platoon is congratulated on winning the Wyer Cup for the third year in succession and the ninth time in the last ten years.

This year’s match saw Fox’s and Bridgwater Platoons being placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. The Commandant presented the Powell Cup and plaque to Cpl Robyn Pike of Fox’s Platoon, as the highest scoring individual in the match. She also received the Richard Morgan Cup, as the highest placed individual in Jellalabad Company.

Cpl Sam Green of Glastonbury Platoon was presented with the Mick Emery Shield, as the highest placed individual in Salamanca Company. Yeovil won the Marling run down final between Coleford and themselves for the second successive year. As is fast becoming the custom the Wo’s and Sgt’s Team won the run-down between themselves and the Officers team, winning the Vowles Plate.

Bridgwater Platoon, narrowly beating Glastonbury by half of a point, won the Concurrent Activities competition. Clevedon Platoon won the Liz Smalldon Memorial Shield, for the team gaining the highest aggregate at Clay Target shooting. Whilst the awards for the Highest placed Adult and Cadet went to SMI S. Smith and L/Cpl R. Coles respectively. The commandant also presented the following other shooting awards for the year ending 31st March 06:

Wyer CupThe Napper and Aggregate Shields were awarded to Glastonbury as the highest placed Battalion team in the first and second stages of the ACF News of the World small-bore competition. Glastonbury having been placed 6th in the final stage. L/Cpl Katie Uphill of Glastonbury was presented with the Small-bore Aggregate Trophy for having the highest aggregate during the year.

Ex C/Sgt Timothy Keen of Glastonbury was the winner of the Bath Cup having the highest Full-bore aggregate during the year. Timothy has just returned from South Africa where he was on tour with the Great Britain Under 19 Rifle Team, he is at present studying medicine at Southampton University. L/Cpl Katie Uphill, a family friend, received the award on his behalf. The Battalion Shooting Officer would like to thank all those Platoons which took part in the meeting, the Range, Admin and especially our two Catering Staff who fed us superbly.
