This
years 100km van Ieper walk took place from Friday 26th
to Sunday 28th May during which nine cadets and three
adults from Sexey's Platoon walked a total distance
of 950km. This is the third year the platoon has taken
part in the three day International walking event around
the World War 1 battlefields of Ypres, Belgium which
this year attracted over 4000 walkers.
At the end of the first day, having
walked 30km, they visited the German War Cemetery at
Langemark and later took part part in the parade through
town to the Menin Gate where at the Last Post Ceremony,
the senior cadet laid a wreath on behalf of the school.
Following the parade, three cadets attended the Mayor's
reception in the Cloth Hall, the large Town Hall in
the centre of the town.
On
the second evening, after the 40km walk they all enjoyed
a BBQ on the ground floor of the Cloth Hall and following
the completion of the third day's 30km they visited
the grave of a former Bruton resident and the museum
and trenches at Hill 62, before attending prize giving
and shopping for chocolates in the market square.
Next years event is from 18-20
May and it is hoped that more platoons will be involved.
