Scott
Noyes, 18, from Beaminster, is really making a name
for himself. He was recently selected from 45,000 Army
Cadets as being the "Best Army Cadet in the United
Kingdom" following a week-long selection board
held at Frimley Park, near Sandhurst in Surrey.
Because of this, he was chosen to
represent Army Cadets on a visit to India, where he
had tea with the President of India. He is also a Lord
Lieutenant's Cadet, and has assisted the Lord Lieutenant
during various Royal Visits.
And this week Scott, who currently
works for Morrisons in Bridport, was presented with
his BTEC First Diploma at Distinction Level, by his
local Member of Parliament, Oliver Letwin MP, Chairman
of the Conservative Party's Policy Review.
Scott is currently a member of the
Somerset Cadet Battalion of the Light Infantry, and
the presentation took place, appropriately enough, at
The Keep, home of the Regimental Museum of the Devon
& Dorsetshire Light Infantry.
After the presentation Mr Letwin said
how pleased he was at the Army Cadet Force's initiative
in offering such a Qualification to it's members. He
said that with cadets being able to obtain this award
"in house" so to speak, it made them all,
boys and girls, worthy of employment. At the same time,
it led to reduction in the cost of training for the
employers, which could only be of benefit to the community.
The Course covered leadership, man management, decision
making, problem solving, and many other facets of being
an employee or, indeed, an employer.
So, what is Scott going to do
when he leaves the Army Cadet Force? Join the Army perhaps?
No. He has just been accepted for Pilot Training by
the Royal Air Force!
