Somerset Army Cadets Pull off the Double

The Winning TeamsIn 2005 the Battalion Nijmegen Team attended the qualifying event at RAF Cosford in Shropshire, and were awarded the  Prize for “Best ACF/CCF Team” – together with a cheque for £200.

Such has been the interest in the Nijmegen event this year, that the Battalion were able to send two teams to Cosford. Not only did both teams qualify for Nijmegen, but they pulled off the double!

When the prizes for the Army Cadet Force and Combined Cadet Force Teams was announced, we were very please to hear that Team A had received the Prize for Runners Up.   Then, when the name of the Winner was announced, you can imagine the reaction when it was announced that the B Team had won!!

CSM Jodie CurtisThere was another surprise in store, because when Cadet CSM Jodie Curtis of Team B was called out to receive the Winners Shield and Cheque from Air Commodore Sims, CO of RAF Cosford, they announced that “today is Jodie’s 18th Birthday”, and the voices of 1500 fellow marchers from Wales, Scotland, Switzerland, Holland, Denmark joined those from England to sing “Happy Birthday To You”!   When we do embarrassment, we do it well!

Well done to both Teams, and we wish them luck when they get to Nijmegen.  Before then though, just a little matter of some more training to keep up the fitness levels.
