Frome
and Uphill platoons came together as B Coy at Camp for
the second year running, and once again it was a huge
success. Performing at Both the Officers and WO's &
Serjeants mess functions, the cadets also performed
at the 4* dinner night for the first time, with not
a single instructor in the band! Huge thanks must be
extended to Bugle Major Bunker and the other Adult Instructors,
who despite being short handed, ensured the entire camp
ran smoothly.
Hard on the heels of camp came a series
of high profile displays in September, starting with
our annual visit to Montacute House. This year we performed
alongside the Band of The Grenadier Guards and the Pipes
and Drums of the Irish Guards. The Bands recieved a
standing ovation from the many current and ex Light
Division members as they left the arena, which can only
be taken as a tribute to how hard the Cadets and Instructors
have worked.
Following Montacute, a busy week supporting
the Wells 800 celebrations ensued, with the Bands performing
a 4 times in a week. Saturday saw us leading the Battalion
on the Volunteers Parade in front of Wells Cathedral,
where the Parade was reviewed by HM Lord Lieutenant
of Somerset, Lady Gass, and the Bishop of Bath &
Wells.
Wednesday saw the Frome Band performing
in the grounds of the Bishops Palace, this time for
The Wessex RFCA and their Guest Speaker, Major General
Farquharson, GOC 5 Div.
Saturday
saw the Battalion Band in Wells again, performing twice
in the Bishops Palace as part of the Family Fun day.
Both parades went off fantastically, the final display
marking the close to the event.
The Final event of the week saw Cadets
from Frome providing rifle fire during the performance
of the Finale to the 1812 overture. The Band of The
Light Division and the Band of The Rifle Volunteers
were supported by 105mm Light Guns from 226 Bty RA(V)
in a fantastic performance which included the bells
of Wells Cathedral.
After this busy period, the next few
months continue to look busy. The Bands will shortly
be visiting the Band of the Rifle Volunteers in Exeter,
before attending the Advanced Drummers Course at Longmoor
in October with the ACF National Bands. This, coupled
with Carnival Season and Remembrance Parades will ensure
the Bands get plenty of outings between now and Christmas!
