This
years Brigade Skill at Arms Meeting was once again held
at Yoxter Range. Having struggled to shoot the Pool Bull
shoots in heavy continuous rain, a decision was made to
cancel the "Frankfort and Patriotic" Target
Rifle match scheduled for Saturday.
We awoke on Sunday morning to find
the weather had changed dramatically from the previous
day, with dry and sunny conditions. After a Team Captains
meeting a decision was made to cancel the "Marling"
match, in favour of shooting both the "Frankfort
and Patriotic" Target Rifle match and the "Montgomery
of Alamein" GP Rifle match.
With good range management by 20 CTT,
advice from the Brigade Shooting Rep Lt. Col. Andy Smith
and slick Butt marking, supervised by SMI Simon Whitcombe,
both matches were completed in good time.
Despite loosing the whole of last
years "A" Team to universities, Somerset teams
were placed 2nd & 4th in the "Montgomery of
Alamein and 3rd & 6th in the Frankfort & Patriotic
matches.
Somerset teams were placed 2nd and
5th in the "South West District Shield" which
is an aggregate of both matches. Somerset won "The
Somerset & Cornwall Light Infantry Cup" for
LI affiliated units; an aggregate of both teams scores,
for the 20th successive year.
Cpl Michael Smith of Martock and Cpl
Tom Bulmer of Glastonbury were awarded medals for achieving
5th and 6th places respectively in the "Dirty Dozen",
for being placed in the top twelve.
